is a late 1800's to turn of the century quilled awl case. It is probably Northern Plains possibly Mandan or Hidatsa. The case itself is approximately 10 1/4" long and the overall length is about 19 1/2". The suspensions at the top of the case are about 8 1/4" long. Both the top and the bottom suspensions are intermittently quill wrapped and the hide is still in excellent condition. The main body of the case is a tapered stick that has a cloth covering sewn onto it and then is wrapped with quills. As you can see in the picture, sections of the quillwork is missing on the main part of the body. Most all of the quillwork on the suspensions is still intact. The suspensions shows wonderful patina and are my favorite part of the awl case. I've seen some of these on ebay before that were fake, but 's a chance to own the real thing. As usual t is no reserve so enjoy this nice piece and good luck!
