This is a very nice Lionel Trainmaster ZW. It is a late model 275 watt. It is NOT a MODEL R, although it is missing only one of the attributes of a true Model R and that is the newer resistors across the whistle switches. Other than that it has all the other features of a MODEL R including the riveted name plate, newer circuit breaker, and most importantly, the riveted coil laminations. The riveted coil laminations are by far the most important feature of the MODEL R as it makes for quieter operation and less heat buildup. I have just finished servicing this unit, which includes complete disassembly, cleaning and polishing of all interior parts. Re-lubed where required. All solder joints have been re soldered. 4 new rollers and rivets installed. New 8 foot 16ga. cord installed, New 16 amp stud diodes installed to insure great whistle sounds. Circuit breaker has been tested and operates to factory specs. (I do not like to replace the original CB unless I have to. I have much more faith in the original units which were made in Chicago, or many by Texas Instruments, than I do the newer Automotive Chinese ones being put into these lately as replacements)! Coil has been cleaned and tested for any dropouts along the entire voltage range. All wire terminals have been checked for tightness, and any suspect ones were replaced. As you can read more
