A late Victorian black slate cased mantel clock of architectural design, having a stepped plinth and figural ornaments flanked by Doric pillars. Has Hamburg American Clock Company (HAC) eight day movement faced by ceramic dial with Arabic dial. Mainspring key included - original. Movement bears the famous crossed arrows trademark first used in 1892 .

The Hamburg American Clock Company (HAC) was formed in Germany in 1873 by Paul Landenberger and Phillip Lang. The initial company was known as Landenberger & Lang Uhrenfabrik. The company changed it's name to Hamburg Amerikanische Uhrenfabrik (HAU) and Hamburg American Clock Company (HAC) in 1883. The famous crossed arrows became their trademark in 1892 at which time the company started producing clocks such as Mantel clocks, longcase clocks, wall clocks and ships clocks
