All edges golden. The binding was probably made in Flanders and was decorated with elaborate blind stampings. Next to a frame made of elegant linework, the covers were enriched with so called bee rolls, beautiful patterns of combs and bees. The binding is slightly rubbed and a little bumped. Head, tail and corners were professionally repaired in the early 20 th century. End-papers renewed. Lacking clasps and catches. Golden edges faded. Vellum with faint dampstaining. Unfortunately lacking the miniatures for the Hours of the Virgin and the Offices of the Dead.The Book of Hours at hand is a very impressive and interesting manuscript with wonderfully preserved illuminations.Price References: As they were hand-made and individually crafted each Book of Hours is unique and are sought after by many collectors and bibliophiles. Books of Hours made in the late 15 th century are currently being sold at a price of $ 35,000 upwards at .Description, contents and further information:A richly illuminated, handwritten Book of Hours. According to the handwritten exlibris on the first calendar page this manuscript belonged to Judoci dÂ'Acquet, who was probably a predecessor of the famous Dutch collector Hendrik dÂ'Acquet sr (1632-1706).The Book of Hours contains 5 beautiful ornate pages, each surrounded by two elegant frames of red and gold painted lines. A wonderfully decorated 5-line initial is the main attraction of each ornate page. The initials were painted on a ground of beaten gold using different shades of blue and are filled with colorful flower arrangements. The left margin of each ornate pages is filled by gorgeous filigree floral decorations in blue, red and gold. Furthermore one four-line and two three-line grand initials also illuminate the text. They are painted in burnished gold surrounded and filled with beautiful floral ornaments in red and blue.The remaining 1 and 2 line lombard initials can be divided in three large groups:The approximately 240 initials of the first group are all painted in gold and also surrounded and filled with ornamental decor in red and blue.The second and largest group of approximately 320 initials consists of blue initials with ornamental adornments. Some of the letters are decorated with beautiful tendrils, which protrude into the margins and were painted with fine red brushstrokes.The third group, consisting of approximately 200 initials, are painted in gold and decorated with fine ornaments. Some initials have also been adorned with elegant black tendrils protruding into the margins.The text was written in a Gothic Littera Bastarda using red and brown ink with complete rubrications in yellow.Despite their age of over 500 years the colors and vellum seem very fresh.
