This is an original, late 1960's production Leatherwood / Realist 3x9 Adjustable Ranging Telescope (ART scope) made for the Colt Model 655 Experimental Sniper Rifle in 5.56mm / .223. It is not the more common AR-TEL 7.62 version made for the XM-21 system. Scope has serial number 016478 stamped on left side of turret. Cam ring is marked 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450 and 223 Rem 55 P. Optics are clear and scope is in excellent condition with rings and carry handle mount. I purchased this scope directly from Jim Leatherwood about 7 or 8 years ago. He told me he only made about 3 or 4 dozen for the 5.56 making them much harder to come by than the 7.62 scopes. You can see pics of this type scope and get more info in Senich's "The Long Range War Sniping in Vietnam" on page 112 and 129. I have only seen one other scope like this in person and it was bought from Jim at the same time as mine and sold on Ebay about 6 months ago. If you are collector of Vietnam era weapons or sniper rifles, this is a must have addition to your collection. DO NOT USE THE AUTOMATED CHECKOUT AT THE END. WE WILL SEND YOU CHECKOUT INSTUCTIONS AT THE END OF THE AUCTION. We prefer payment directly through our store, Moore Militaria. Shipping via UPS (or USPS for international).
