A fine bayonet for the No 5 rifle (Jungle Carbine) the contract for No 5 bayonets was placed with Viners on 23rd March 1945. Only Elkington made less No 5 bayonets than Viners. Viners produced 42,000 in comparison to Elkington 10,000, Radcliffe 75,000 and Wilkinson 188,000.The blade is marked with the Viners war time code N79 The blade is blued rather than polished and retains most of its finish the blade has not been sharpened or subjected to other abuse. The grips are in good condition with no cracks or damage. The pommel has some very light pitting in one small area (3mm diameter). The scabbard is the rarest of the No 5 Scabbards made by Vanden Plas their wartime code S 286 is visible on the photographs. Vanden Plas only made 20,000 No 5 scabbards which is the lowest volume of any producer. The scabbard has no dents or bruises. A No 5 bayonet by a less common maker with the rarest variant of scabbard.
