***Lots of WoodworkingTools for Sale!*** Veritas (Lee Valley) Edge Trimming Plane 30 th Anniversary Stainless Steel Model Number 277 out of 300 This is an edge plane similar to the current one offered by Lee Valley except that it is made of stainless steel instead of cast iron. After Lee Valley released their iron version, I wished that they would offer the same thing in bronze because bronze doesn’t rust, but they stopped making the bronze planes after the iron ones came out. The iron models incorporated several improvements on the bronze planes that make them superior performers except for the issue of rust. Rust is a valid concern for a plane that you use by gripping the iron surfaces rather than wooden handles. The new planes have an A2 iron, new advancement mechanism, and set screws. The set screws are an especially vital improvement because the edge of the iron must be absolutely perpendicular to the fence in order to perform correctly. Also, since the edge of the iron is skewed, the absence of set screws means you must take great pains to sharpen it at exactly the same angle every time and then re-calibrate the plane every time the iron is removed or shifted by a knot or a tough stretch of wood. Both the original bronze and later iron versions are vast improvements over antique originals and the modern Lie-Nielsen ones because they have a significantly longer registration surface and larger grip area. When Lee Valley announced they would release a stainless steel version in celebration of their 30th anniversary, I snapped one up since this special release is the best of both worlds. The entire production of only 300 planes was sold out immediately, and they only come up on Ebay on rare occasions. This plane is number 277 out of 300, and the number is engraved underneath the iron. One actually was listed on Ebay a couple weeks ago for the first time in recent memory and sold for $500. This plane was only used once and is in pristine condition. No wear, scratches, smudges or anything. I opened the blue plastic rust inhibiting bag in order to take a couple test swipes, then returned it to the blue bag, placed that inside the velvet presentation bag, and kept it all in the original box. The box accompanying paperwork, and gold-embroidered velvet bag are also all in pristine condition. Please see the pictures to confirm. I will ship by putting the whole package into another box to keep everything in perfect shape. Also, I am open to reasonable offers on this item.
