***Lots of WoodworkingTools for Sale!*** Veritas (Lee Valley) Edge Trimming Plane 30 th Anniversary Stainless Steel Model Number 277 out of 300 This is an edge plane similar to the current one offered by Lee Valley except that it is made of stainless steel instead of cast iron. After Lee Valley released their iron version, I wished that they would offer the same thing in bronze because bronze doesn’t rust, but they stopped making the bronze planes after the iron ones came out. The iron models incorporated several improvements on the bronze planes that make them superior performers except for the issue of rust. Rust is a valid concern for a plane that you use by gripping the iron surfaces rather than wooden handles. The new planes have an A2 iron, new advancement mechanism, and set screws. The set screws are an especially vital improvement because the edge of the iron must be absolutely perpendicular to the fence in order to perform correctly. Also, since the edge of the iron is skewed, the absence of set screws means you must take great pains to sharpen it at exactly the same angle every time and then re-calibrate the plane every time the iron is removed or shifted by a knot or a tough stretch of wood.
