Here's a beautiful authentic ART DECO hand-carved left-facing shell cameo brooch, set in filigree brass. I believe the brooch dates back to around the mid-1930s or so. The cameo itself is bezel-set and mounted onto the filigree brass frame with a small twisted brass rope around the bezel. The brooch is in the shape of a modified diamond and, together with the shell cameo, you see four seed pearls and eight small purple stones hand-set in square brass bezels. The gemstone positioning, with three on each side of the cameo, is very indicative of ART DECO designs.The brooch measures about 1 ¾" across by 1 ⅜" down , a nd the cameo itself carved from just one piece of thin shell! Featured is the left-facing profile of a young woman with a bun in the back of her head and a spiral sausage curl hanging down to her right shoulder. She's wearing a hat with a petaled flower on it (see photos on this page). Overall condition for the cameo is VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT with NO stones or pearls missing or anything else wrong.
