You are bidding on an exquisite, service for 12 collection of Lenox Charleston placesettings which also includes a 16" serving platter; 9 3/8" oblong serving bowl; 9 1/4" round serving bowl and gravy boat. Lenox describes their Charleston series as: "Subtle, elegant, classic, aristocratic. And very refined. Distinguished by lovely floral artistry, capturing delicate rose peonies with a soft gray border. Each piece is crafted of ivory bone china and banded in lustrous platinum." Each of these pieces is in near mint condition. I am selling them on behalf of a friend who received them as wedding presents when she married a world renown surgeon and expected she would be doing a good deal of entertaining. Unfortunately, the marriage lasted only a few years. She said she used this service only about five times and the extraordinary condition of this china would appear to bear her out. These pieces have only been handwashed . They have never been put through a dishwasher , though Lenox advertises that they are dishwasher safe. They have been sitting in my friend's closet in the quilted protective covers that you see pictured below for the last several years. In its stored state each dish has a layer of foam padding between it and the next to prevent scratching between plates. I stacked them only for the purpose of photographing them and did so with extreme care. The overall condition is so pristine that even the ivory colored quilted covers are practically blemish free. I looked at each individual piece when taking them out to photograph them. T were no chips or cracks. The only flaw I saw was a 1/4" scratch mark on one of the dinner plates near the inner silver border. The fact that t are actually 15 dinner plates in this collection should help ameliorate that imperfection for the winning bidder. T were a very few, very light scratches in the sheen on some due to silverware moving against the plates as they were used. But again, they were used so infrequently, even those are at a bare minimum. You kind of have to hold the plates up to the light at a certain angle to even see them. As an added benefit, t are a few extra plates and cups. My friend said this was due to the way her bridal registry was set up, with wedding guests buying various extra individual pieces. The total collection includes: 15 dinner plates; 10 3/4" in diameter 13 salad plates; 8" in diameter 13 bread plates; 6 1/4" in diameter 12 saucers; 5 3/4" in diameter 15 tea cups with an 8 oz capacity A 16" serving platter A round serving bowl approximately 9 1/4" in diameter and 3 1/4" high An oblong serving bowl approximately 9 3/8" in diameter and 2 1/4" high A gravy boat approximately 9" wide and 3 3/8" high Shipping . I took this to UPS in advance of this listing to get an accurate figure. This collection is substantial enough that it will have to be sent in 3 boxes with each one averaging between 23 and 28 pounds in order to give these pieces maximum protection. The $150 shipping cost is actually lower than what it will cost us in packing materials and true shipping costs. Another thing of interest: even the UPS manager said, "wow, those are really beautiful dishes" when she saw them. Insurance . We will require full coverage but you will get a bit of a break as UPS gives $100 worth of free coverage for each box. That means the first $300 of any insurance will be free. You would only be required to pay $1 for every $100 of value beyond that. The listing may say insurance is "not offered". That is because it required me listing a specific amount which I cannot know until the auction is completed.
