4 LETTERS 1808-1816 ENGLISH PLANTER IN JAMAICA Description :Four original autograph letters signed, 1808 to 1816, from Charles Gordon Gray, Jamaica, to his father, also named Charles Gordon Gray at Stratton House, Somerset, England. Obviously the son was handling the family plantations in Jamaica, mostly at Virgin Valley, and mostly pertaining to the running of the plantations. In a letter of 20 February 1812 he notes that he fears t will be war with America. Also discusses the slaves of a lady neighbor who wants to hire them out but he thinks she has pampered them and they will not make good workers. Postally, they all have straight line marks "Montego Bay" and various postal rates. All in fine condition and with a total of 14 pages closely written. Shipping : Items will be shipped either by first class or Priority mail, except for books which will be sent via Media Mail. Shipping charges are as close to the actual cost as possible. If paying for more than one item please wait for my invoice (which are always sent out within one or two hours after auctions) to prevent multiple shipping charges. Overseas shipping costs will be determined at the end of the auction, but keep in mind that the USPS has eliminated the more inexpensive shipping method. With rare exceptions I ship within one or two days of a sale. A shipping charge is listed with each auction so if t is a question as to that charge please email prior to the close of an auction. ALSO PLEASE NOTE: For all domestic shipments I use printed shipping labels via Paypal and USPS and include delivery confirmation on all such shipments and I always show the cost of shipping on the label. Buyers can always check said shipments by going to "order details" within the listing and then click on the tracking number. Payment : Please use the eBay invoicing system to notify me within three days as to time of payment. And under the new eBay rules payment must be made via Paypal as I am not setup to accept any other form of payment. The new eBay rules, violation of which subjects the seller to suspension, requires sellers to exclude the acceptance of other forms of payment. Please direct any questions to the seller.
