LETTERS ELEGY SIGNED JOHN MCCABE TO JOHN BARBIROLLI CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL 1965 You are bidding on a fantastic archive of letters scores and programmes relating to John McCabe and presumeably John Barbirolli.I am of course certain of the provenance of John McCabe but I have no concrete proof that these letters were sent to the late great John Barbirolli.Although the evidence is pretty heavy for the above association, once you have read the letters and read the evidence below.One of the letters dated 25.6.66 is to John and states here is a score of my piece with compliments, this letter was inside early score Symphony (Elegy) 1965 by McCabe and this piece was comissioned by the Halle Concert Societyfor the opening Concert of the 1966 Cheltenham Festiva, for the performance by the Halle Orchestra, conducted by Sir John Barbirolli, the letter then goes on to say ''looking forward to seeing you in Cheltenham''. signed in pen John (please see the photograph).There is another letter (dated sept 13th 1967) that discusses what John would like from John as an engagement present, (signed in pen John) again please see photogrpahs.Clealy these two individuals have a closesness and the associaiton with music is clear also the associaion with the 1965 Cheltenham festival is evident.
