An important collection of letters, photos and other items from Southern California from the late 1800's to 1912+. The majority of the letters are written between John (Jack)L. Plummer of Los Angeles and Mollie Churchill of San Diego. The Plummers were one of the first families of the Los Angeles area, and this archive contains many love letters, photos, receipts, a Los Angeles Business College graduation invitation, and many other items. Fascinating look into the life of early Southern California; one letter from Jack to Mollie mentions the "killing of a Negro" while he was working/staying at the farm of B. Kohlmeier of Ethanac, Riverside. Another letter has hand-drawn diagrams of a home they were planning to build in Los Angeles. Most of the letters are tender love letters between Jack and Mollie. T is a letter to Jack from the University of California College of Agriculture, dated April 22, 1912, responding to an inquiry about courses offered. Photos include pictures of Jack Plummer as an infant, one of a lady that may be his mother; one of a gentleman, J. Plummer that may be his father. Also photos from his student days at what looks to be The Los Angeles Military Academy. A large photo of a grown-up Jack in a very jaunty hat, very handsome. A charming Mollie Churchill as a child in 1905 from Tacoma, Washington; two later
