Offered is a 6" tall Opaque Vaseline Cobalt Random Threaded Blown Art Glass Witches Balloon Ball on solid brass stand made by the Intaglio Art Glass Studio and Gary Levi in 1997. It was mouth blown and finished in the off hand method using Fenton Vaseline Glass. It is signed "Levi '97" with diamond pen. This Oval Balloon Shaped Witches ball started its life as a gob of molten vaseline glass on the end of our glass blowers pipe which was blown out, shaped in a specially designed apple wood mould, warmed in, and blown into its final size. As one glass blower was working the body of the ball a second was gathering and then applied the ribbon of cobalt glass over the surface of the vaseline. The piece was then broken off the pipe, the pipe end was torched to remove any rough edges, and annealled. This process has produced a ball with a beautiful deep vaseline opaque color highlighted with the gorgeous cobalt threads. My 3rd photo was taken under a black light and I am sure you can tell how deeply the vaseline glows. Mother's Day is just around the corner. Buy Mom something she will treasure forever - a hand made piece of American Art Glass! It is truly a unique piece of American hand made art glass and it is a dramatic example of the glass artists' technique of producing hand made glass without the use of any kind of machine, only the skill of the glass artist can make something so special. Because of the unique way in which all our art glass was produced each piece is a one of a kind work of glass as art, rare, rare, rare! The Levay Intaglio Art Glass Studio under the direction and guidance of Gary W. Levi melted it's first pot of glass at 209 E. Vandalia St. in Edwardsville, IL on October 11, 1984. The studio was moved to Alton, IL in 1993 w it continued to produced high quality art glass until it was closed at the end of 1998. The studio will not reopen. The opportunity to use Fenton cullet became available to us in the late 1980's and we ultilized not only Vaseline and Cobalt, but also Emerald Green, Burmese, Rosalene, Green opal, Black Amethyst, Ruby, Aquamarine, Cranberry, Misty Blue, Opal, Crystal, Gold Purple, Black Amethyst, Opal and Dusty Rose. This piece is from the personal collection of Dodie & Gary Levi owners of The Levi Intaglio Art Glass Studio. Bid with Confidence! GPSA MemberGlass & Pottery Sellers' Association
