JOURNAL OF THE VOYAGES AND TRAVELS OF A CORPS OF DISCOVERY, UNDER THE COMMAND OF CAPT. LEWIS AND CAPT. CLARKE OF THE ARMY OF THE UNITED STATES, FROM THE MOUTH OF THE RIVER MISSOURI THROUGH THE INTERIOR PARTS OF NORTH AMERICA TO THE PACIFIC OCEAN, DURING THE YEARS 1804, 1805, & 1806
PATRICK GASS PITTSBURGH, 1807 A cornerstone of any Americana library, this is a very defective copy of the first separately published account of Lewis and Clarke's expedition. It has been carefully compared to a complete copy and is guaranteed authentic. Title page and half title are missing. Substantial loss to bottom of first two pages of Preface. Missing pages 77-78, 85-86, 99-100, 160-165, and 259-262. About a dozen further leaves holed with loss. Considerable foxing and staining. About a dozen leaves appear to be supplied from another copy of the first edition. Complete copies retail for around twenty thousand dollars. This is a rare opportunity to acquire this highly important work at an affordable price. Four dollars shipping to the USA and the UK. Insurance optional but strongly recommended. I will be selling a great selection of early books in the coming weeks. Please check my other listings.
