I'm pleased to offer for your bid this "Magnificent" VINTAGE MEXICAN Sterling Silver MEDALLION. It measures 2-1/2" in diameter, is DOUBLE-SIDED & weighs 49 grams. The FRONT SIDE features the 3-dimensional FACE of an ancient Inca, Aztec or Mayan GOD. The face is adorned with an ORNATE MASK & CROWN that is decorated with SOLDERED SILVER WIRE & CHAIN "Jewelry" accents (see image). I do not know who the face represents. I would guess a folklore diety or warrior. In Aztec culture "closed eyes and open mouth were usually representative of death". The OPPOSITE SIDE of the medallion features an "incredible" embossed depiction of the AZTEC CALENDAR. I'm assuming that it was stamped into the metal from a die, like a coin, however, the SHARP CLARITY of the facets and ORNATE DETAIL indicate painstaking craftsmanship. Engraved geometric patterns decorate the rim of the calendar as well as the rim & background of the mask side. The FLAT LINK that is permantly soldered around the wire loop of the medallion is stamped with the words "Mexico Sterling" along a barely discernable Eagle? symbol and the maker's mark "EMMA?".
