For auction we have a large Indian ivory carving of a elephant with riders and attendants. This ivory item was produced in India around the c1870s for most likely a piece of the highly coveted 'John Co.' chess set. The John Co. chess sets were hugely expensive even at that time of production and were purchased many times by the higher ranking officials of the British Raj and sent or carried back home to England w today one mainly comes accross a single surviving piece with most in poor condition. This particular piece is one of the larger ones you will find. This one is designed as a royal elephant complete with riders, mahout (driver), howdah (top carriage) and (4) escorts or soldiers for protection all this being atop a nice thick ivory platform resting on (4) turned ivory feet. This piece is in amazingly good condition having only very minor wear with the possibility of a spear replacement with one of the soldiers. T is great color tone, graining and patina along with superb details throughout. Height 4" x Width 4" x Depth 2". A wonderful addition to anyones ivory or Indian antique collection. Please make sure that you consider the other ivory 'John Co.' chess piece I have on also. Good Luck! *****In accordance with ebay's rules & regulations regarding the purchase of elephant ivory, any items made from such in whole or part must be shipped within the United States. If you have any questions regarding the purchase or shipping of ivory items to your location, please email me as I will be happy to inform and assit you any way I can. NOTE: Over the past 23 years I have been buying, selling and collecting Asian art and other high quality antiques and collectables. My main emphasis has been working with dealers, designers as well as a core group of serious collectors. About five years ago I decided to start offering some great items from the "Old China Trade" as well as good Japanese 18thc & 19thc antiques on ebay for auction. Not every item I offer will be from these two groups however I will only offer high quality pieces that will continually rise in value through the years to come while giving much enjoyment and satisfaction that other investments cannot provide. Good antiques definately deserve a place in ones financial portfolio. ***Please contact me with any questions, all questions will be answered within 24 hours. ***Buyers please allow up to 10 days for personal checks to clear through bank before shipping takes place. Insurance is optional but highly reccomended, totals will be figured at auctions end.
