Custom-bound in full tan slate morocca ruled in gilt, inner dentils gilt; raised bands; spine coffers ornamented in gilt; series spine title gilt on red; spine title gilt on brown; top edge gilt. 2 vols. lxiv, 327 pp. + ads; 324 pp. + ads. Illustrated "from original designs" on India paper mounted on plates; v.1 frontispiece portrait of Defoe. Includes biographical sketch of Defoe written expressly for this edition.
