This book has too much history :) First, just the book itself. Written by the well known 19th century British historian Charles Macfarlane. It's illustrated and a gorgeous book of the life of Napoleon. Now the history of this particular book is also fascinating. There's a lot of writing in it from a 19th century Lake Oswego Oregon family. The father was the superintendent at the Lake Oswego Mines - J H Pomeroy. From what I can tell the father made notes as he read the book and then he gave it to his son William. William is famous because he made a diary in 1883 which was printed as a book you can find. William glued in an inscription saying his father gave him the book in 1884. Interestingly enough, on the last page of the book J H quotes Blaine's Twenty Years of Congress. I also have Volume 1 of that book (which is gorgeous) if you'd like to pair the two books. /itm/1884-Twenty-Years-of-Congress-1861-1881-Lincoln-to-Garfield-James-G-Blaine-/201185934493?pt=Antiquarian_Collectible&hash=item2ed79dbc9d Here's a variety of links to the history of the Pomeroy family. Please be sure to review the pictures so you can see the clear provenance (fancy word for history).
