LIGHTED GULF OIL GAS PUMP ISLAND STATION CANOPY SIGN

This is an original vintage Gulf gas station sign. It is MINT, NOS, and has never been used. It measures 32" tall X 34" wide X 6" thick. It is most likely from 1980 or 1981 which was the first two years these signs were used by Gulf on their buildings or the canopy. Prior to 1980, Gulf used blue plastic letters and prior to that they used blue porcelain letters. This one was recently found in the back of an old Gulf heating oil jobbers warehouse. He no longer has any Gulf gas stations but back in the 1980's he did have a couple of gas stations and was planning to change one over to Gulf so he ordered this sign from Gulf. Then at the last minute, he sold the station to the dealer that was renting it from him and the dealer decided to make it a Citgo station instead of Gulf. He put this sign in his warehouse where I found it nearly 30 years later while I was picking through his old pumps. It was in its original box but the box was all shredded because it has gotten wet a few years ago when he had a leak in the roof. I removed it from what was left of the box, cleaned it up and connected it up to power and it lights up and works great. You can tell by the ends of the wires that this was never in use. The two wires protruding from the rear of the sign is where I made my temporary electrical connection in order to test it and that is where you must either hard wire the sign to a switch or connect your own cord and plug. This can be hooked up to regular 110 volt house current. It can be mounted indoors or outside on the front of your building. It does not have a scratch on the sign itself. There are a couple of light scratches on the blue lens retainer ring where it was resting on the floor and moved from place to place through the years . This can easily be touched up with blue paint. The lens itself is in pristine condition and has the gloss and shine from the day in 1980 when it was manufactured. If you look closely you will see the original sticker on the bottom of the face which reads "polycarbonate " etc and has cleaning instructions for the lens. A polycarbonate lens is very durable and nearly indestructable. It is obvious that if this sign was never in use because if it had been, the stickers would have come off. Also note the manufacturers name, "Dualite" is also still on the sign. The case has no dents or scratches although the back of the aluminum case is beginning to oxidize as does any old piece of aluminum. But that goes against the wall when hanging so it makes no difference. This would look great hanging in your garage, shop, basement, game room , family room or man cave. It would look great next to your muscle car, antique car, classic car or hot rod. Please contact me if you have any questions. Reserve will not be revealed. You may pick up here in NE PA if you desire. I accept Pay Pal but if you desire to pay with personal ck or U.S. postal M.O., that is acceptable also.
