Kurt Balleby began carving pipes in 1983. He studied his art By working with Kai Nielson a Danish pipe maker of very high regard. Six years later in 1989 Kurt invested in his own machinery and organized his workshop in the basement of his home. Balleby pipes are carved from selected Corsican plateau briar blocks seasoned for five years. Blocks with fine straight grains, and also exquisite cross grains. He performs 150 steps to produce each pipe which limits his Yearly production to only 200 to 250 pipes. These pipes are expertly engineered not just produced. For this reason over the past 3 to 4 years his pipes have earned a reputation as some of the finest pipes in the world. Even his stems are made by hand and bare his 14 K gold logo on them.
