From 1879 to 1904 Lillian Russell was the Marilyn Monroe of her era ... and her era lasted quite a while. Her impact on culture was, well, she was the celebrity icon for decades. In our era, celebrities have a mush shorter "fifteen minutes of fame" at the top of the pyramid being replaced sequentially. The Davis Cabinet Company of Nashville, Tennesse, created some fo the finest hand crafted solid native furniture of the early 20th century. Using solid walnut and solid cherry, Davis craftsmen designed and built beautiful, heirloom quality furniture. My great grandfather invented the the mold and process to make seamless vulcanized rubber inner tubes. He sold this invention to Harvey Firestone. He liked fine things. My mother was getting married and as a wedding present picked the Davis Cabinet Company Lillian Russell solid American Walnut Bedroom suite. T was no better furniture than that made by the Davis Cabinet Company in Nashville and their premium line was Lillian Russell. This BED is built from solid walnut with absolutely flawless technique. My mother's family was famous for being maticulous, their house was like a musem. The BED shows very little use with no chipes, cracks, missing or replaced parts on the HEAD BOARD or FOOT BOARD. The original SIDE RAILS may be hickory stained walnut to match and do show some finish flaws from use and the inside "ledge" that support the cross boards has been repaired with glue and screws. The repair does not show from the outside and is covered by the box springs. The HEADBOARD measures 57.5 inches wide inches X 64 inches tall. You may do as many others do and use a larger mattris on a modern steel frame with these antique head and foot boards. Box spring and mattris are not included. This BED is very well preserved to be 67 years old. The Lillian Russell brand is still sold by Davis Cabinet Co. but is now made in Indonesia only from soft Asian Mahogany and stained either red or brown. Solid American Walnut is no longer available. A spokesman for Davis Cabinet Company states that an antique soild American Walnut Lillian Russell Bedroom Suite in excellent condition with bed, chest with jewelry boxes, dresser with jewelry boxes, and Lyre Night Stand is worth $8,000 and is appreciating in value. Let's see what this brings at auction. This BED will also be available for sale locally. It is too nice to chance damage by shippers so, you may pick it up in Franklin, Tennessee (just South of Nashville) or I will deliver within 200 miles or so for $2.00/mile, $60 minimum. I will combine the delivery charge should you be the high bidder on other pieces of this bedroom suite listed in my auctions. You may pay by PayPal, send a money order or bring go ol' American cash. I can't see how you could be dissipointed with this furnature for your home, antique store or as a truso gift for your most beloved granddaughter!
