# L2018 ...(1996) ...Lilliput Lane,... "Harriet Cottage".... Original price $85.00. ( BUY IT NOW! $51.00).--- Distinctive triple chimneys, golden thatch, & roses clambering up the walls make Harriet Cottage a charming example of the 19th century Picturesque style of architecture. The original house is in Lyndhurst, Hampshire. The name of the village, which is known as the capital of the New Forest, comes from the Linden, or lime tree, & it is a place steeped in history, being already ancient when King Canute failed to impose the royal will on the tide at nearby Southampton. T are three churches in the village, the largest of which, St Michael's, has windows by Burne-Jones & william Morris. In the churchyard is the grave on Alice Hargreaves for whom, when she was a little girl, Lewis Carroll wrote "Alice in Wonderland". Lyndhurst also boasts a very old cricket ground & spectators can enjoy a splendid view of the game from the beautiful mound known as "Boltons Bench". At the opposite end of the village is Swan Green, which makes the swan resting on the lawn of harriet Cottage a particularly appropriate visitor.
