Limoges Depose Antique 3-Handled Vase/Tankard For sale is a wonderful and weird piece of Limoges porcelain. It has both a hidden identity and an amusing rebuff. I am convinced that t is picture or flowery pattern underneath the applied gold leaf. You can see this from looking at the many photographs I have taken (which should be viewed, as they form part of the overall description). Perhaps it was of a bawdy drinking scene. At any rate, t is no point stripping the piece to find out, but this weird fact adds to its charm. Also, you can see t is an inscription on the bottom (which I had to "fool" the flash to grab an image of...): "Dr. James. From Mrs. Hardtius", dated 12/24/04/. I only hope Mrs. Hardtius isn't reading this. The handles have wear to the gold leaf finish, and it has a distinctly pearly porcelain tone, which even comes through the leafing. Note the lustrous interior of the piece. It is pearlized. This could be used either as a tankard or a vase. It would be marvelous as a vase, as gold seems to enhance all other colors. It weighs 1.2 lbs., and measures seven inches tall by 17 inches in diameter (including handles.) The base has a three inch diameter. Excellent antique condition.
