Limoges Pitcher HP Poppies Signed Listed Artist Pfohl I have for your consideration a fabulous Limoges pitcher decorated by the J.H. Stouffer Company. This company was a direct competitor of Pickard and was in existence from 1905-1952. The pitcher bears the rare red Mark 2 which was used only between 1905-1906 and signed by the listed and highly talented artist, Wenzel Pfohl who was known for his poppy renditions as well as his animal and portrait decor. A quick look at the accompanying pictures will attest to the skill level of this remarkable individual who utilized warm colors and marvelous techniques. The pitcher 7.50" tall, nearly 10" across from lip to handle, and measures 25.5" in circumference at its widest around the base. The background colors are warm muted shades of olives and grass greens, browns, with splashes of oranges and yellows. Against this amazing palette Pfohl has executed some of the most gorgeous deep orange poppies I have had the pleasure to see. The poppies are done in several variant shades of orange with shading that makes them almost look paper thin with a sense of movement. The ebony black centers around a jade green stamen are dotted yellow flicks. Interspersed throughout this floral design are long willowy green stems holding some poppies upright with their bell shaped blossom heads gently bowed. read more
