You are bidding on an authentic, April 17th 1865 edition (full 8-page edition) of the New York Times newspaper with excellent Abraham Lincoln Assassination and Civil War content. We purchased this newspaper from a lot offered by , the world's largest auctioneer of historical memorabilia. This item was originally part of the famous Henry E. Luhrs Collection .

Aging as expected, some splits and stains. Overall good condition. Abraham Lincoln, shot on April 14, was dead by the time this edition went to press. The columns are all edged in black as a sign of mourning and speculate as to the future of the country. Civil War news still appears from the South. Historically important, these papers allow the modern ready to enjoy pivotal American history in the present tense. Some great headlines include: "Our Great Loss", "The Assassination of President Lincoln", "Funeral to take place next Wednesday", and "Inauguration of Andrew Johnson".
