LINCOLN MEDAL – King 1010 – Obv., On upper part of medal, a clothed, bearded bust of Lincoln facing right in oval, flag and oak leaves at either side, date “1854” to left, and “1929” to right, under which is inscription in seven lines, “JACKSON, MICHIGAN HERE, UNDER THE OAKS JULY 6TH 1854, WAS BORN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY DESTINED IN THE THROES OF CIVIL STRIFF TO ABOLISH SLAVERY VINDICATE DEMOCRACY AND PERPETUATE THE UNION”. At bottom, oak leaves tied with ribbon; on right hand margin in small incused letters, name of designer, “KILENYI”. Rev., Scene depicting meeting of Laverty, Blackman and the Indian Pe-wy-tum (also the latter’s dog) at early sunrise, July 4th, 1829, at what is now Grand River at Trail Street, Jackson, Mich. In oval above, President Jackson facing slightly to left, “ANDREW JACKSON” below bust. Below central scene inscription in four lines, “JACKSON CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION JULY 4TH”. Dates “1829” to left, “1929” to right. Bronze, 38mm., very good condition.
