LINCOLN MEDAL – King 912 – Obv., A nude, bearded bust of Lincoln facing left. Inscription surrounding upper section, “115th ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF” around lower section, “ABRAHAM LINCOLN”, a star at either side of name. “1809” to left of bust, and “1924” to right of bust. Rev., Inscription in a half-circle surrounding upper section, “TO COMMEMORATE THE PUBLICATION”, and in nine lines in center of medal “BY THE NUMISMATIST OF THE ROBERT P. KING LIST OF COINS, MEDALS, TOKENS, ETC. OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN FEB. 1924”. In small letters at bottom, “H.A. GRAY FEC.”. Bronze, 45mm., very good condition. Note – This medal was struck by Childs & Co., Chicago, was issued by Mr. King to commemorate the publication of his list in February, 1924. It was suggested by Mr. Harry A. Gray of Boston, and his views for the reverse inscription were followed. All profits from the sale of these medals reverted to the American Numismatic Association for their coin-collection fund.
