MITRIO 1976/97 Collezione Sabattini Italy, signed on the front, stamped on the bottom 35 cm wide x 25 cm high x 16 cm deep Weight: 2535 grams Heavy elegant piece by the renowned Italian silversmith Lino Sabattini. Highly collectable. This piece does have a small surface scratch on the front. But is still a very beautiful piece and ones eye does not notice this due to the high shine and how the light shines on it. His objects for daily use are characterised by grand elegance and clear-cut modernism. One of his earliest designs was for a teapot that was produced by the German manufacturer, W. Wolf. In 1955, he established his own Milan-based metalworking studio and met the architect and designer Gio Ponti who organized an exhibition of his work in Paris . Between 1956 and 1963, Sabattini also worked as design director of Christofle Orfèvrerie, Paris , over the same period he designed metalware, glassware and ceramics for Rosenthal, Nava and Zani & Zani. In 1964 he established a studio and small workshop, known as Argenteria Sabattini, in Bergnano to produce his designs on a limited scale.Sabattini regularly exhibited at the Milan Triennale exhibitions. He won numerous awards including a gold medal in 1971 and a Compasso d'Oro in 1979.
