This is a Beautifully, Hand- Carved Wooden Replica of the LION of LUCERNE, the famous sculpture in Lucerne, Switzerland, designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen. " The sculpture commemorates the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution. The American writer, Mark Twain ( 1835 - 1910), praised the sculpture a " the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world". This piece measures 4" long by 2" tall.
