LION OF LUCERNE SOUVENIR FIGURINEThis beautiful figurine of the Lion of Lucerne is up for auction. This figurine is in very fine condition and has beautiful detail. Purchased in Switzerland in 1993. I don’t know the age of this piece or what it is made of, I am working on that information It looks and feels like wood but is Not wood The bottom is marked with the date it was aquired 09/1993 The side near the bottom had a mark A42 see photos It was very dusty so I gave it a clean before I photographed it. This piece measures 5 inches in length approximantly 2 ½ inches in width and the height is 2 ¾ inches. Photos were taken with and without flash to capture color and detail. This is an exquisite figurine depicting the Lion Monument “The Lion of Lucerne” located in Lucerne, Switzerland. This monument was designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen. It commemorates the Swiss guards who were killed in 1792 during the French Revolution. The front is written "Helvetiorum Fidei ac Virtuti" which translates to "To the Loyalty and Bravery of the Swiss" Quite beautiful!
