The Lionel Northern Pacific Switcher No. 628 was available in 1956 and 1957, with a yellow striped sheet-metal frame, black body, and yellow heat-stamped railroad herald, and number. This switcher has a Type IID motor, one axle Magnetraction, and operating disc couplers. A three position directional unit that was adjustable from underneath the chassis. Ornamental bell and horn on top and there are headlight lenses at both ends, but only one end is lighted.
All of the Lionel GE 44-Ton units are designed to work on the tighter radius of O27 Gauge track, but they will run equally well on O Gauge track.
