This is the Lionel 2025 Steam Locomotive Train with the 2224W Tender . I believe this is a 1947 model because of the aluminum smokestack. Also t is no back inside the engineers cab, I am not sure if that is the way this is supposed to be. Reading the history on this train I realize the tender I have doesn't go with this train. This is the last of the steam engines and tenders I have left so I have to sell these 2 together. In any case I believe this is an absolutely beautiful train and tender together.I am going through my father's collection of Lionel trains that I inherited and I am getting down to the end This is an absolutely beautiful train and would make a great addition to your Lionel collection. I am not a train expert at all but I can appreciate the fine craftsmanship that went into making these. I am not sure which model year this train is. When my father had these he displayed them on a track and had the headlights on so I know they worked as of 2001. They have sat in a box since then. I also have listed a Lionel 671. The 2025 steam engine was classified by Lionel as a K4 Pacific steam-type engine. The real life K4 Pacific was predominately used by the Pennsylvania Railroad and Lionel's model is a good representation of the actual locomotive. The 2025 is a mid-size steam engine. Lionel classified it as an 027 gauge item. The 2025 is considered a quality locomotive and is the same locomotive as the 675 locomotive (with the exception of the number). In addition, the 2025 does share its boiler casting with other Lionel locomotives such as the 2035 steamer, however the internal workings are different. Features
The 2025 steam locomotive had two independent production runs. The first was from 1947 through 1949 and the second was a single-year run in 1952. Although each run carried the same production number, in most cases parts are not interchangeable between the early and late version. The first production run started in 1947 and ran through 1949. The earliest run in 1947 consisted of a 2-6-2 wheel arrangement with detailed driving wheel hardware, three position E-unit, smoke, aluminum smokestack, Baldwin disk drive wheels, die-cast trailing truck, ornamental bell and headlight. The number on the keystone on the boiler front was either 2025 or 5690. Initially the whistling tender was numbered 2466WX, however sometime in 1947 it changed to 6466WX. The number change corresponded to a change from coil couplers on the 2466WX to magnetic couplers on the 6466WX. The 1948 and 1949 version of the 2025 was the same as above with two exceptions. The smokestack was modified from a separate aluminum piece to a black-painted stack. The second modification was the inclusion of a simulated knuckle couple cast into the cowcatcher. This version always came with the 6466WX tender. The final 2025 run was in 1952. Externally, the 1952 model looks very similar to the earlier models. Internally, t are numerous differences. The 1952 model has a 2-6-4 wheel arrangement with detailed driving-wheel hardware, three-position E-unit, smoke, relatively plain spoked drive wheels, sheet metal trailing truck plus ornamental bell and headlight. The number on the keystone of the boiler front was always 5690 while the tender was always the 6466W whistling tender.
