Welcome to my auction. You are bidding on a used Lionel # 221-W Tin Plate whistling tender in very good Condition. It has some scratches and slight bends in the tin plate, which are minor for a piece that is 66 years old. Graphics would rate excellent while the paint would be considered good. There is no rust any place on the tender. Here is what I have done to the tender: It has been re-wired, the armature cleaned, brushes cleaned (they are like new), motor was lubed, contacts for whistle relay cleaned, all wheels cleaned and rollers replaced in both trucks. Since this is a Tin Plate tender, the chassis and shell are put together with little metal tabs. Over time when this tender has been serviced several of the tabs have broken off. I have modified the chassis and shell so that this tender can be taken apart for service and put back together after service has been performed. Note pictures 5 & 6, you can see where I have drilled holes and added, six sheet metal screws next to the tabs. I have left the tabs that are still in tact, but you no longer need them to secure the shell to the chassis as the screws now serve that purpose. If you are an operator and run whistle tenders, from time to time they need to have the motors lubed, armature's cleaned and the brushes cleaned or replaced.
