Here is a Lionel 2240 Wabash EMD F-3 A and B unit Diesel from 1956. The A unit has a single vertical motor, Magnetraction, 3-position E-unit, horn, operating pilot coupler, and a light in the nose illuminating the cab, headlight and number boards. The unit runs very well and everything works well. The lettering all appears to be original and is complete and crisp. There are not any boxes! Mechanically they are in very good shape and the 'internals' of the A unit can be seen in picture 3. The wire to the horn has liquid electrical tape covering an exposed section and can remain as a permanent repair. The battery door/cover has discoloration to the nickle and a nut/bolt through the center from a long-ago repair. The horn does work well!! These units look very nice, but upon close inspection it appears they have been repainted and touched up at some point and to what extent I can only speculate! What I can tell for sure is that the bases have been resprayed with the original color paint and look good, only the undersides of the ladders have some overspray on them. The blue on the A unit nose has some areas that were touched-up or brushed at some time and not very noticeable.
