You are viewing Lionel's 1956 version of a Baltimore & Ohio F-3 with its original boxes and rare master carton in near perfect condition. Very few opportunities come along like this, as this is one of the finest examples of the B&O you might find. The history of this AB is simple. It was found in a house in Bethesda, Maryland in 1973 by my good friend Mr. Larry House and was a part of his collection until the late 80s when he was kind enough to sell it to me.
The condition of the engines and boxes are superior. The tricolored diesel has crisp lines and just one minute rub on the last fan. See pictures. Some collectors prefer a rub or two to be comfortable with the fact that no one has touched up the piece. The lettering is bright yellow and consistent throughout. The pinstripe is perfectly consistent all the way around the diesel. No rubs or missing paint. There are no thumb and finger finger rubs where the engine and B unit are usually picked up. The dark gray wears away when handled from the top. There are no chips or dents on the rear of the A unit where the roof meets the back and the B unit is free of marks on both ends also. The frame is perfect and, as you know, it can get marked very easily with use. There are no rub marks on the marker lenses on any corner of the A or B unit. There is no oxidation or signs of age with any of the components when the cab is taken off.
The boxes are BRIGHT, CRISP, HARD, SQUARE, PERFECT BRICKS without writing, rips, finger nail jabs, stains or mildew. The master carton does show a sign of tape remnants. The internal boxes are rich in color on all sides. All flaps are present and in tact with no repairs. The original crisp paper, inserts and instructions are included.
I have done my best to describe the engine and boxes to help your observation of the pictures. Feel comfortable and confident that you will not be disappointed if you choose to bid and win the auction. You will notice the quality of this locomotive by observing the pictures. The boxes themselves are a healthy four figure set and that is without the trains. These engines are of the highest quality found and they are LEGITIMATE, not fakes or items that have been made to look mint! Be careful out there. If you have any questions, please email me.
Many of my trains have been pictured in the Greenberg Price Guide over the years and this is no exception. This immaculate example of Lionel's B&O is pictured beginning with the 1991 guide and many other editions thereafter. For those of you who have purchased trains from me prior to this date, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for all you positive feedback remarks and I am glad you are happy and enjoying your trains.
Please take the time to view some of my other auctions over the next week. You will find some interesting post war items all of which will be either like new or mint (for the discerning, high end collector). Combined shipping is available if you purchase more than one item.
