THE RIO GRANDE WAS MADE IN 1957-58 AND IS A COLLECTOR FAVORITE. ITS COLORFUL YELLOW, BLACK AND SILVER PAINT SCHEME IS ATTRACTIVE BUT VERY DELICATE. THE SILVER WOULD RUB OFF THE SIDES OF THE ROOF FROM LIFTING THE ENGINE AND B-UNIT FROM THE TOP AND MIDDLE. THE DECAL OFTEN FLAKED AND BROKE UP AT THE FRONT VENTS AND THE BLACK PILOT AND FRAME, WHEN SCRATCHED, BECAME VERY NOTICEABLE BECAUSE OF THE PAINTED BLACK SURFACE (SCRATCHES CAME UP WHITE AND OBVIOUS). IT HAS PERFECT BRICK-LIKE BOXES(SQUARE, HARD FIRM AND CLEAN) . THE ENGINE BOX RATES A C-9 AND DUMMY BOX A C-10. FINALLY, THE ORIGINAL INSTRUCTIONS AND ORIGINAL WRAPPING PAPER ARE INCLUDED.
IF YOU HAVE TO HAVE MINT, PERFECT UNBLEMISHED CONDITION FOR YOUR COLLECTION, THIS ENGINE FITS THE BILL. THIS UNIT IS OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY AND COLLECTOR GRADE SO PLEASE CONSIDER THIS IF YOU CHOOSE TO BID. EXAMINE THE PICTURES CAREFULLY AND YOU WILL SEE THE QUALITY OF THIS FANTASTIC RIO GRANDE AB. ABSOLUTELY STUNNING CONDITION . A MAGNIFICENT TRAIN!
This pristine black, yellow and silver beauty is as rich in color as the day it was made. With perfect boxes, this engine is highly desirable. Finding one that has no box rub marks is very rare. There are no handling rubs on it where most people pick them up (sides of roof in the center of the engine). In mint condition, it will sell for $4000-$5500 OR MORE at prime auctions and collector shows. Please consider the difficulty of finding a piece in this condition, age, rarity and the delicate nature of the paint as the driving forces of its value. We are below the market value with our reserve on this piece. Good luck if you choose to bid and email me if you have questions or need more pictures or information. I will be happy to assist you in any way I can.
