Lionel 259E Gunmetal Gray Locomotive Steam Engine & 2689T Tender It has the usual nicks of paint here and there but overall looks great for its age. A lot of the little spots look to be surface rust It runs forward, reverse, and lights up It has been given a general cleaning and oiling. If you test it long enough you will get an occasional miss, then it goes the next time. Bottom looks very good The only broken thing that I can find is on the under side of the driverod mechanism just under the cylinder. Two tiny pieces of metal are broken off, but it is not anything that can effect the performance of the Engine Where the driverod connects to the drive wheel has a washer and a phillips head screw. I do not think this is original but it works. The front two drive wheels look darker. I do not see any evidence that they were ever replaced. It could just be embedded crime from the years even though they have been cleaned. For that matter old metal can do strange things. Otherwise they are solid. The sand domes have a sort of copper tint to them. Again looks like an age thing. Be sure and check the Freight Cars I have in other listings from the same Era.
