We recommend this set for several reasons: The loco in this set has a coupler on the front for extra play value (most other locos don't have this feature) This loco is easier for children to put on the track due to the 0-8-0 wheel arrangement (without pilot wheels) A heavy duty 80 watt transformer is included with lots of extra power for expansion With an outstanding all metal engine with smoke and whistle, the set is complete and ready to run with no assembly required Just put the track together on the floor (even on the carpet) and let the fun begin This set is also recommended instead of the 6-30089 Penn Flyer because the Keystone has an 80 watt instead of a 30 watt transformer. The 80 watt transformer is required for expansion, has a catalog price of $139.95; and you get it in the Keystone for an additonal $30, ultimately saving up to $100 In addition, the Keystone set has a lighted caboose, and 6 construction signs not in the Penn Flyer. Set is otherwise identical The all metal Locomotive has a headlight; puffing smoke; remotely controlled whistle, speed control and Lionel's famous forward, neutral and reversing system; along with a maintenance free motor and a coupler on the front of the loco as well as on the rear of the tender The coupler on the front adds tremendous play value, enabling duplication of all moves made by real railroad locos. (Most model locos do not have a coupler on the front) Please note that the forward, neutral and reverse system enables you to stop the train in neutral with the power on and operate all the operating cars ever made, including the greatest playtoy of all time - the operating milk car. This system is only available in Lionel O gauge and Fastrack sets and not in any other gauge.
