This is a Lionel 45N Metal Automatic Gateman from 1945. The gateman was Lionel‘s most popular accessory from the postwar era. This is earlier all metal version which was subsequently replaced in 1950 with the plastic 145 version. When you put the track trip under the track and the train goes over it the little man comes out of the house with his lantern to say HI! A lantern illuminates until the train passes. This illuminated lantern feature was dropped in the 145. It has a fair number or nicks and scratches on the base and walls of the house. Also, two crossing arm tabs are missing. Overall condition is Very Good. This item was inspected by both our in-house Lionel Postwar experts and by our Authorized Lionel Service Station and we guarantee this item is completely functional and operable.
