This wonderful, all original, Lionel No. 233 0-6-0 switcher was recently obtained from the original owner, in Pasadena, CA. Of all the Lionel “8976” Pennsylvania B-6 0-6-0 switchers, the 233 is considered by many experts to be “THE” most difficult to find and the most desirable. The 233 is the only semi-scale switcher, with the “high coupler,” to be equipped with Lionel’s “MAGIC ELECTROL” system, which allowed this locomotive to operate on the same track as another, conventional locomotive, at the SAME TIME! The system was a break through in 1940 and is part of what makes the 233 switcher so much more desirable than the others in the series. This particular 233 is in GORGEOUS, ORIGINAL CONDITION and shows very little sign of use. That said, this loco has never been cleaned, dusted or polished and should clean up to look ever so much better than the photos show it I truly believe that this item should clean up to be C-8 or C-8+, but for the sake of this auction, please go by the numerous, detailed photos. The silver lettering on the loco and tender is just MAGNIFICENT! Both the loco and the tender are die-cast metal. The tender is equipped with an automatic ringing bell and a back up light. T are electro-magnetic couplers on the front of the loco and on the tender. T are no damaged or missing parts. That said, the wires that run from the tender to the loco are falling apart from age and will need to be replaced, which is an easy job. Please pay close attention to the original boxes. First, t is the original box for the 233 locomotive, the original box for the 2233B ringing bell tender and then the original master carton, in which both of those fit, which is numbered 907B, the number Lionel gave to the loco and tender set. In addition, t is the EXTREMELY RARE original box for the No. 168 Magic Electrol Control. According to the original owner, t was some sort of a minor problem with the loco when it was brand new, so his father sent it to Lionel to be repaired. It was sent back to them in the ORIGINAL LIONEL SHIPPING CARTON that you see pictured. How’s that for provenance? The original instruction sheets, packing materials, etc. are also included. . - see many photos below. Sold as-is, as-found in estate collection.
