HI everyone, TinMan here with another creative product!. just received a new shipment, your chance to build that dream rust free layout! 100 straights and 32 curves! The picture only shows a portion of the track, too many to get into the px.During the Korean war era, specifically from around 1949 thru 1954 or so, Lionel was in their heyday of selling product like crazy. For some reason we assume due to supply and demand reasons due to the Korean war, nickle was either very scarce or way too expensive. Previous to this time all Lionel track was made of tin and coated with a nickle plating which gave them their bright and shinny appearance. Rather then either raise their selling price, or stopping production they found another solution. What they did was to take the normal tin track rails and instead of using the traditional nickle to plate them, they galvanized the rails. The process they used was the same that is used to make chain link fencing. The end result was track that had a very dull appearance, and of course did not appeal to those who had become accustomed to the traditional bright and shiny track. However given the option, it was galvanized or nothing, a huge amount of this newly designed track was put into circulation.
