The 2436 Summit or Mooseheart Observation Passenger car is part of the 2432, 2434, 2435 and 2436 family of passenger cars. These passenger cars - with their vibrant red lettering -- are updated versions of 2421, 2422, 2423 and 2429 passenger cars offered by Lionel in the early 1950s. Lionel sold several combination of two, three and four car sets. In addition to boxed sets, the passenger cars were also offered as a separate sale items. Most experienced collectors believe production of these cars ended in 1958 with leftover inventory being catalogued and sold in 1959. As with most silver painted items from the postwar era, the silver paint is easy to nick, mark or scratch. Clean examples are hard to find and will command a premium in the marketplace. Features Standard features on the 2436 Observation include: painted silver bodies with red lettering, silhouetted window strips, die-cast passenger car trucks with a single operating coupler plus interior illumination. The 2436 is unique in that it was produced with two different names -- either Summit or Mooseheart. The Summit name was produced from 1954 through 1956 while the Mooseheart name appeared in 1957 and 1958. Of the two names, most collectors prefer the Mooseheart name as this is the harder version to locate. Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information Summit - The earlier read more
