BLUE COMET STANDARD GAUGE PASSENGER SET

Introduced in 1930 the Blue Comet set is simply the most striking train set Lionel ever produced in Standard Gauge. They were built through 1939. It was modeled after The Central Railroad of New Jersey's premium, luxury passenger train that ran from Jersey City to Atlantic City.

Lionel spared no details in fashioning their own premier offering. The engine has boiler details, and bell. The passenger cars are what make this set. The roof of each car is removable and reveals their opulent interiors. They are illuminated and have individual seats (and even two bathrooms per car with sinks and toilets) for the passengers comfort.

Per Lionel's pre-war style, many variations of trim colors (nickel, brass, bronze and shades of blue) were utilized over the years. This set is easily their most recognizable set ever produced. This set contains the #400E steam locomotive and matching oil tender, #420 "Faye" Pullman Car, #421 "Westphal" Pullman car and #422 "Tempel" Observation Car.

This specific train was the central piece in my Dad’s collection for as long as I can remember. It has the nickel trim and black wheels. The paint is so nice it might have been professionally repainted at sometime in its past.
