THESE USUALLY SHOW A LOT OF WEAR. HOWEVER THIS LOCO WAS NEVER CARELESSLYTOSSED INTO A TOYBOX. THIS IS ONE OF MY BEST 1666’s IN A LONG TIME – WITH ONLY A FEW EXCEPTIONS . The first being, it does not run. There can’t be much wrong with it because it is so clean and shows little wear. My guess is it unexpectedly quit running years ago and was packed away. The motor and drive wheels move smoothly by hand. The e-unit control lever is rust-free! Next, two short valve gear rods show some corrosion. If you are a purist you will want to replace them. Also light rust on headlight bracket. That’s it. All it needs otherwise is a light cleaning using your own preferred method. The pictures clearly show lots of loose dust. Reference books establish this is PREWAR because the cab floor stops squarely at its end, is not rounded outward as in the brief run of postwar Lionel 1666 models. Please notice both green front marker light housings are NOT BROKEN OFF, the cowcatcher steps are perfect, and the original headlight lens looks very good. The shiny wire handrails with stanchions are spotless and complete. The black factory paint has a bare minimum of chips or scrapes. It has fine front and rear die- cast metal trucks . I think the big drive wheels have the expensive Baldwin type outside steel rims that were dropped from Lionel locos shortly read more
