This Lionel prewar #253 "O" Gauge Locomotive was originally produced in the late 1920's into the early 1930's as part of Lionel's electric outline locomotives. It has been lovingly restored to it's former glory using paint formulated to match the "Dark Green, S.G. Green and Cream" that Lionel used during the era. The body and frame were stripped, primed, painted and kiln-dried. The solid brass trim has been highly polished and lacquered and the nickel trim, couplers and wheels have been polished as well. The loco runs great, forward and reverse. The motor and the headlight housings have been rewired and new bulbs installed. The motor has all original drive wheels. The pickup assembly is all new. The loco has copper journal boxes [axle covers]. T are some issues with this loco that need to be taken into consideration. This loco lead a very hard life. The brass inserts on one side were worn a little more than usual and had to be touched up. The body is fine, but the frame had some oxidation on one side. It has been treated, but some of the rivet detail is gone. It isn't noticeable unless you look very closely. Please take these observations into consideration. Let this baby head end your prewar freight or passenger set. Please e-mail with questions. Thanks for looking!!
