Lionel Prewar 408E Standard Gauge Electric Locomotive. This is in Good (C5) to Very Good (C6) condition. I have never run this Locomotive. My layout does not have enough power to run a locomotive of this size. Also, I did not run it due to the condition issues with some of the wheels. (See below) It was not run very often by the original owner. It has been on display for many years, thus the dust on the engine. It was totally undisturbed from 1996 – 2007. This may have had some restoration, but I don't think much has been done. According to the original owners 1972 TCA Insurance Log this is original. The motors appear to be original. Some of the wheels may be replacements and the cowcatchers may also be replacements. T are some scratches, scrapes and dings on the body of the locomotive, both on the roof and hoods of the engines. The brass on the loco is tarnished due to age, particularly on the doors of the cab. T is a small gap between the hoods and the front of the locomotive in a couple of places. (maybe 1/8 inch at the bottom.) T are a minimal scratches on the cow catchers due to contact with the couplers and on the edges which leads me to believe they may be replacements. The sides and underside of the base are in good to very good condition T are some scratches on the outside of the base unit. About half the wheels are starting to decompose. They are split and may start to fall apart if the locomotive is run much. The decomposition appears to be on all the wheels on one side of the car. All wheels are labeled Model Engineering Works. The motors appear to be original. They are labeled "Lionel Super Motor for Standard Track. The Lionel Corporation, NY". This was from the collection of a long time TCA member. This will be shipped via UPS Ground at the declared value based on the results of the auction. The Locomotive weighs about 11-12 lbs.
