Quality work is NEVER an accident, but the result of high intentions and a sincere effort. ZW's will operate most any train made today w/"add-ons"! Having serviced Lionel transformers for almost 30 years for some of the finest Chicago area hobby shops, you are assured of receiving a fully functional transformer! is the last model ZW built by Lionel in the middle 60's, this one built about 63/64that will be operating trains for another 50 years, usually found in better condition because it's the newest! The "mold deterioration marks" on the upper case indicates the late age but hard to see on the pic! 's another nice clean and super quiet almost noiseless ZW! Lionel began building Model R's about 1959, Model "R" refers to the "R"iveted coil core, the "L" in the title refers to "L"ate! This is the only model that has the solid wire wound whistle resistors instead of the long resistor wires! It is slightly more efficient than previous models and tfore operates cooler and quieter and "puts out" slightly more voltage than previous built ZW's, this one shows 21.4 volts output! About the only indication that this ZW is even on is the lite green lite! Lionel specs. say that 1445 bulbs be installed and because they burn dimmer I also installed translucent bulb covers for more visibility! Cases have no cracks but will have a MINOR scratch or 2 on either case or handles! This late model ZW was hardly used and has the heavier/stronger EMBOSSED coil supports that I even glued them to lamination assy. for increased strength for shipping and has a very clean interior! It has been completely serviced with NEW power cord, 4 NEW rollers that were aligned to a clean coil, (wear on rollers didn't require replacement but "time" can damage rollers depending on prior storage), circuit breaker and any broken or loose terminal posts were replaced. Both whistle outputs are high end of Lionel specs. after both sets of switch-shaft contacts were cleaned and diodes installed! The nameplate emblem is a NICE ORIGINAL! Paint on base plate is ORIGINAL! All functions work perfectly as ALL my transformers! This transformer was built to operate Lionel trains built prior to 1966. It will operate trains built today too however, some "add-ons" may be required to operate electronic circuitry. The NEW repro box shown shown has all 4 inserts! The instruction sheet is a COPY of original! This box not only helps in getting your ZW to you undamaged but will keep your ZW "out of harms way" and clean when not in use! (Note, circuit breakers are installed in transformers toprotect the transformer, not your train. If operating newer electronic trains, I suggest installing a"in-line" fuse holder in one of the wires to track and install a FAST-BLOW fuse in holder so that the delicate/costly circuit board in your loco is protected in case of mishap).
