Lionel 773, The Hudson, Steam Engine and 2426W TenderIf you are in need of a description and history of this engine, please search EBAY or other internet sources for 773s for sale. Rather than plagiarize another’s research into the history of this Lionel engine, I would rather give you details about this specific steamer: This engine was purchased new. I am the original owner. It was given to me by my father who worked for Southern Pacific in Tucson in their round house, repairing steam engines before the advent of diesel. This engine was “in service” from 1950 to 1962 and enjoyed two remarkable layouts; one in Tucson, one in Los Angeles. It is immaculate, complete in all detail, undamaged and unbent. It was serviced in February of this year by Mike Raymond of Hobby Town, USA, in Northern California. The servicing included rewiring of the tender, clean armature & brushes, lube. Yes, it runs! The 773 is paired with the 1950 version tender, the 2426W “Lionel Lines” 12-wheel semi-scale tender. In the mid-sixties the Hudson was paired with an eight-wheel 773W. The early 2426W is generally preferred by collectors because of its scale-like proportions and extra detail not included on the 773W tender. This is a gorgeous, wonderfully preserved 773 and tender. Please note the missing steps on either side of the cow catcher. An attempt will read more
