LISTED AMERICAN ARTIST OIL ON BOARD GEORGE SLOANE 1897 Sweet country landscape on beveled wood panel, an early work by noted American artist George Sloane, signed and dated 1897. Finely rendered impressionistic pastoral landscape with haystack. Wonderful brush strokes. George Sloane was born in Salem, Mass. in 1864. He was educated at the Boston Museum School, where he met and later married fellow artist, Marion Parkhurst (1875-1955). Known for his small cabinet paintings in oil, Sloane trained in America, then maintained a Paris studio for several years around the turn of the century on Avenue de Villiers, but spent the rest of his life in the Boston area.
