Live Steam Boiler OVERVIEW This auction is for a gas-fired steam-generating boiler with essential auxiliaries. The boiler barrel is a seamless copper tube approximately 3.75” diameter and 10” long with copper endplates reinforced with a longitudinal stay. Four ¼” water tubes in the bottom of the boiler improve water circulation and promote heat transfer from the gas flame to the water. All joints are silver soldered. The externally exposed portion of the boiler is covered with a tightly fitting mahogany jacket held in place with thin brass bands and brass end plates. Normal operating pressure is 60 to 100 psig. The boiler was completed and passed a hydrostatic pressure test to 200 psig in 1975. It was operated two or three times shortly after that, but has not been used since then. BOILER BASE Stainless steel plates 5” wide by 6” high and 1/16” thick support the boiler and form the ends of a spacious firebox. Sides of the firebox are 1/16” cold rolled steel fastened to the end plates with socket head screws into ¼” square corner posts. Ends and sides of the firebox are insulated with a ¼” thickness of ceramic cement. A framed hole on each side of the firebox enables observation of the gas flame through a thin mica window. A round hole through the front plate into the firebox permits access for lighting the gas pilot jet in the firebox,
